Computer Access and Policy

CURRENT GONZAGA STUDENTS FACULTY AND STAFF

Computers are available in the following locations when the library is open

  • Public areas of the main floor, 2nd floor and lower level
  • Lower level library Instruction Mac lab (when no class is scheduled)
  • Main floor library instruction lab at the west end of the building (when no class is scheduled)
  • Laptops at the Circulation Desk may be checked out for campus use

Current Gonzaga Students - log in to library computers with the same username and password used to access ZagMail and Blackboard. 

Current Gonzaga Faculty and Staff - log in to library computers with the same username and password used to log in to office computers and Gonzaga email.

VISITORS AND GONZAGA ALUMNI

There are four library computers which are reserved for use by Gonzaga alumni and other visitors to campus. Any use of Foley Center Library computers must be in compliance with Gonzaga University’s Acceptable Use Policy.**

  • The computers are available the following hours during the semester, hours may be reduced during holidays and breaks:

Monday-Friday 8:00 am to 6:00 pm

Saturdays and Sundays --  10:00 am - 6:00 pm

  • Visitors must sign in at the Reference Desk and get a PIN from the Reference Desk staff.
  • Use of the public access computers is limited to one hour per day.

MOODY STUDENTS

Present your current Moody ID Card to library staff and we will log you into an available GU computer.

SCHOLARLY ACCESS - STUDENTS AND FACULTY FROM OTHER INSTITUTIONS

A current student or faculty member from another institution may request access to library computers for an extended period of time for the purpose of doing scholarly research. Any use of Foley Center Library computers must be in compliance with Gonzaga University’s Acceptable Use Policy.**

Permission for access will be reviewed by the Chair of Public Services, Kelly Jenks jenks@gonzaga.edu

  • Please complete the required form and provide details on the research project.
  • To access library computers, a current ID must be shown to the Reference Desk staff.  
  • Library staff will handle the log in process. No usernames or passwords will be provided.

There is no time limit, but if the computer is needed by a member of the Gonzaga community, the guest may be asked to log out.

Software available at Foley Library

The following software is available on Foley Library Computers, if you need assistance locating these computers please ask at the reference desk. 

  • The full Microsoft suite is available on all library PCs and Macs
    • Word

  • The full Adobe Suite is available in the main floor library instruction lab located on the west end of the building. Programs listed with an asterisk below, are also available on all library Macs and transfer stations located on the main floor.

  • SPSS Statistics is available on Library thin clients located on the main and second floors and in the main floor library instruction lab located on the west end of the building.
  • Audacity is available in the main floor library instruction lab.

Cell Phone & Mobile Device Policy

CELL PHONES

Brief, low-level phone conversations are allowed on the main floor only. Longer or higher volume calls, including the use of speakerphone or video conferencing, must be made outside the building, in the 24-hour atrium, or within one of the library’s Group Study Rooms (when no one in the group objects). Please take your belongings with you if you leave your study space.

All phones must be kept on silent or vibrate mode while inside the building.  Text messaging is acceptable, as long as it does not cause a disturbance.

ALL MOBILE DEVICES

All devices, including laptops, tablets, and cell phones, should not be audible to others in any way. Headphones must be worn when viewing or listening to any media, and kept at a volume that does not disturb other library users.
