VISITORS

Visitors are welcome! Foley Library staff are happy to assist visitors with their research activities subject to available resources and the priorities established above.

  • Library materials may be used inside the building during established visitor hours. A Community Borrower’s Card may be purchased for $35 a year in order to check out books.

  • There are four visitor computer stations. Computer use is limited to one hour per day per visitor. The availability of computing resources is not guaranteed and hours of operation may vary.

  • Visitors do not have access to study rooms, computer labs, the testing center, conference rooms, and staff areas. After 9:00pm, access to the building and the atrium is restricted to those with a valid ZagCard. Visitors may be asked to leave.

Building Use Policy

Foley Center contributes to the Mission of Gonzaga University by providing an environment conducive to study, instruction, academic collaboration, and scholarly research. Foley’s primary clientele are Gonzaga’s current students, faculty and staff. Supporting their scholarly endeavors is our first priority.

All building users are expected to honor the academic library environment and to respect the rights of others to study and do research. All are expected to use the space appropriately and abide by established Foley policies.

Building Use Policy violations include but are not limited to:

  • Interfering with the ability of others to work, study, or otherwise use the library and affiliated services

  • Disruptive, threatening or disrespectful behavior

  • Failure to observe floor noise levels, especially Quiet (yellow) or Silent (red) Study Zones

  • Failure to observe the Mobile Device Policy

  • Failure to comply with the Food Policy

  • Failure to provide sufficient supervision of children

  • Use of tobacco products (including e-cigarettes), and use of or being under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol

  • Panhandling, commercial solicitation, or conducting unauthorized surveys

  • Failure to promptly exit the premises at closing time or when otherwise directed by staff

  • Misuse of computers and information technology resources in accordance with the Gonzaga University Acceptable Use Policy

Failure to comply with policies may result in removal from the building and/or the termination of library privileges for a specified period of time.  University employees have the authority to identify and address policy violations. Unlawful activities will be referred to Gonzaga Campus Security and appropriate legal authorities.

Visitor Hours

VISITORS AND GONZAGA ALUMNI
Visitors and alumni are welcome in Foley Library during the following hours during the regular school year (fall and spring semesters). Hours may be reduced during summer semester, academic breaks, and on University holidays.    

            Visitor Hours
            Monday - Friday     7:30 am - 9 pm*
            Saturday                 10 am - 6 pm
            Sunday                    10 am - 9 pm*

*Access to the atrium and library after 9 pm is limited to current Gonzaga University students, faculty and staff. A valid ZAGCARD is needed to enter the building, including both Foley Atrium and Foley Library. Visitors are required to exit the building at this time. Failure to exit the building at the appropriate time may result in a loss of library privileges and a referral to Campus Security.

COMPUTER ACCESS FOR VISITORS
There are four library computers which are reserved for use by Gonzaga alumni and other visitors to campus. Any use of Foley Center Library computers must be in compliance with Gonzaga University’s Acceptable Use Policy.**

  • The computers are available the following hours during the semester, hours may be reduced during holidays and breaks:

       Visitor Computer Hours

       Monday-Friday           8 am - 4:45 pm

       Saturday - Sunday    1 pm - 4:45 pm

  • Visitors must sign in at the Information Desk and get a PIN from the Information Desk staff.
  • Use of the public access computers is limited to one hour per day.

Food & Drink Policy

In response to student needs, Foley Library allows:

  • Beverages in covered containers
  • Snack foods and cold sandwiches

To protect our collections and building from harmful pests and damage, and to respect and honor others, these foods are not allowed:

  • Messy food (such as pizza or soup)
  • Hot or smelly food (such as pizza, hamburgers, fries)
  • Fast food, full meals, or delivered items

No food is allowed in the following areas: main floor library instruction classrooms, 3rd floor reading room, computer terminals on any floor.  

Respect the building and those who are responsible for cleaning it by disposing of garbage and recyclable materials in appropriate containers. Report any spills to a library employee. 

Leave No Trace Principles

  • Plan ahead and prepare
    • Plan to eat your meals before you come to the library. If you do carry in snacks and drinks, avoid messy, smelly or hot food that may damage library materials and facilities or annoy others.
  • Dispose of waste properly
    • Make sure to place recyclables in recycling bins and non-recyclable garbage in trash cans.
  • Leave what you find
    • Leave library resources, furnishings, and equipment as you found them -- or in better condition that you found them.
  • Be considerate of other visitors 
    • Respect the next library user and the next generation of library users. 
  • Respect Foley Staff by
    • Complying with the requests made by staff and posted signs and regulations
    • Following guidelines for use of library resources
