Finding Journal Articles in library databases

Using Library Search

Use Library Search to find journal articles in the library databases. This search retrieves full-text articles in many of the Foley databases and is a good starting point for your research. If you want to do a more comprehensive search please use some of the recommended databases which are useful for interdisciplinary research. There are also two databases which include theses and dissertations from Gonzaga and other colleges and universities.

Academic Search Complete (EBSCO) This link opens in a new window
Academic Search Complete is a comprehensive scholarly, multi-disciplinary full-text database, with over 12,000 indexed publications, as well as monographs, reports, conference proceedings, etc.
ERIC (EBSCO) This link opens in a new window
ERIC, the Education Resource Information Center, contains journal articles in the field of education from K-12 to higher education. Also, includes links to more than 323,000 full-text ERIC documents from local and state education departments from 1966-present.
JSTOR This link opens in a new window
Interdisciplinary database for core journals in the fields of the arts & humanities, social sciences, and life sciences, providing archival access to each journal beginning with volume 1.
Project Muse This link opens in a new window
Provides full-text access to over 500 journals from university presses and scholarly publishers. Covers the fields of literature, history, the visual and performing arts, cultural studies, education, political science, gender studies, economics and others.
PsycINFO (EBSCO) This link opens in a new window
Also known as APA PsycINFO, this database is excellent for research in psychology and related fields in the social and behavioral sciences.
Web of Science/Web of Knowledge This link opens in a new window
A multidisciplinary database for leading journals in the arts and humanities, social sciences and sciences. Use this database to identify the number of citations to articles in scholarly journals as well as locating all cited references captured from indexed journals.

Finding Dissertations

Dissertations and Theses @ Gonzaga University (ProQuest) This link opens in a new window
Online access to nearly 1600 Gonzaga master’s level theses and doctoral dissertations from 1976-present. Access includes a 24-page preview and the full-text online, if available.
Foley Center has a complete collection of dissertations and theses written for the Ph.D., EdD and Masters of Nursing programs. There are also some theses from early masters programs in the School of Arts and Sciences. Gonzaga theses and dissertations can be found in the library catalog under author, title and subject. The library usually owns two copies of each thesis, a circulating bound paper copy located in the general collection and a non-circulating microform copy located in Special Collections.

Includes more than 1 million theses and dissertations with abstracts, 24-page previews, and full-text PDF, if available, for dissertations from other universities.
