Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month is observed in the United States during May to recognize the contributions and influence of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders to the history and culture of the United States.

Local Events for AANHPI Heritage Month

Asian Native Hawaiian Pacific Islander Heritage Festival 

Come celebrate the Spirit of Aloha at Riverfront Park! Experience a vibrant Asian Native Hawaiian Pacific Islander celebration of culture featuring live performances, 70+ vendors, demonstrations, and delicious cuisine. 


The 8th Vietnamese Heritage Day Celebration 

The 8th Vietnamese Heritage Day will be presented in Riverfront Park at the Spokane Pavillion on Friday, May 10th, 2024. The program will run from 4:00 - 7:00 pm and will include: a founding fathers commemoration, guest speakers, traditional Vietnamese instrumental music, cultural dances, videos & slideshows, food, and an exhibition of Vietnamese ancient art and history.

Support the local AANHPI Community & Beyond!

Spokane's United We Stand is a community-based organization comprised of volunteers from the descendants of Chinese and Japanese families who arrived in Spokane starting in the 19th century. Alongside these Chinese and Japanese people, Spokane experienced an influx of other Asian, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander immigrants at the same time. 

Spokane's United We Stand aims to use the arts to share about their heritage group's history, traditions, culture, and experiences in America. 


Gonzaga's Asian American Union is a student organization aimed to create a community on campus where all students feel empowered, supported, and welcomed within the larger Gonzaga campus. They aim to fulfill Gonzaga's mission by executing their three core values of social justice, cultural empowerment, and community outreach. They actively encourage students of all ethnicities to help foster a wider understanding and recognition of the Asian American culture.

Gonzaga's Hawaii Pacific Islander Club is organized to create support for Pacific Islander students and students from Hawaii. Additionally, they aim to educate the Gonzaga Community about Polynesian and Hawaiian culture. Throughout the year, they have many activities to create a bond with their members, including camping, apple picking at Green Bluff, snowboarding at Silver Mountain, Winter Clothes Shopping, and many dinners and gatherings. Their main event is the Lū`au which happens annually in April. This club seeks to become a positive image of Pacific Islanders at Gonzaga and in the Spokane community.

Gonzaga's Filipino American Student Union aims to educate the Gonzaga community about Filipino culture through various social engagements. FASU supports Filipino American students and educates those looking to learn about Filipino culture.
