Foley Library User Services Training Guide

General Building Information

Bathrooms

There are bathrooms, water fountains, and emergency exits located on either side of all floors. There is one extra fire escape on the second level (near the academic testing center).

There is a gender-inclusive bathroom on the third floor, in front of the main doors to Greenan Boardroom. This bathroom is accessible during all of the library's opening hours. There is also a gender-inclusive bathroom inside of the iDD office suite (main floor, room 106). That bathroom is only available during iDD's regular hours (Mon-Fri, 8 am -  5 pm).

Light Switches

The light switches can be found on each floor near the elevators. You will see where they are located when you get a tour from a peer student employee.

Noise Zones

Each floor also has a noise zone. The designated group study spaces are on the main floor and the open area on the lower level (the study carrels along the stack ranges in the west wing are designated quiet spaces. The second floor is a quiet space (low-level conversations allowed). The third floor is a designated silent space.

Break Areas for Student Employees

There is a staff lounge located on the 3rd floor by the freight elevator, on the east wing (down the long hallway and to the right). The staff lounge has a kitchen, including a fridge and microwave, and as a student employee you are allowed to use the space and kitchen for your breaks (just be sure to clean up after yourself).

There is also a lactation room located within the staff lounge. University members are allowed to check out the key to that space.

As mentioned previously, there is a supply closet in the Library Admin suite. If you end up grabbing the last of anything, be sure to let a supervisor know so that we can reorder.

Rare Book Reading Room

The Rare Book Reading Room is on the third floor of Foley Library, and is one of the most beautiful spaces in the building. It acts as the reading room for the University Archives and Special Collections (known as UASC). The room is available to students for studying during all open library hours when it is not otherwise in use. Staff and Faculty may book the classroom using our online booking system (Library Homepage --> Reserve a Library Space).

Microform Information

The microforms and microform scanner is located on the lower level of Foley (west wing). We have both microfilm and microfiche, as well as a scanner and computer station to scan items from that collection. At some point, you will be trained to use that machine.

Classroom Locations and Use

The West Classroom (main floor west) is also available for student study when no classes are in session. Staff and Faculty may book the classroom using our online booking system (Library Homepage --> Reserve a Library Space).

The East Classrooms (known as the glass classrooms, main floor east) are also available for student study when no classes are in session. Staff and Faculty may book the classroom using our online booking system (Library Homepage --> Reserve a Library Space).

There are three consultation rooms near the back windows, across from the Circulation Desk. Those rooms are available to book online using our online study room booking system.
