Laptop Updates

The library circulates laptops for 3 hours at a time. The laptops are configured to only work on the on-campus network.

Periodically, these laptops need to be updated in order to ensure that they can connect to the campus network.

To update laptops, follow these steps:

  1. Bring laptop and charger to the northwest corner of the Circ work room (near the hold shelves, shredder and lock box).
  2. Plug the laptop into the wall using the charger.
  3. Plug the laptop into the blue ethernet cord.
  4. Attempt to log in to the laptop. If the laptop gives you the error "Cannot connect to domain," restart it.
  5. Continue with log in attempts and restarting until you are able to successfully log into the laptop.
  6. Check the laptop for updates (on PCs, type "Updates" into the bottom left-hand corner search box; on Macs, click on the Apple menu in the top corner, select System Settings --> General --> Software Update).
  7. Allow updates to run.
  8. Once updates have completed, restart the computer and update the checklist.
  9. At the end of the update cycle for the day, ensure all laptops and chargers are returned to the COW, and that the laptops are plugged in.
