The library circulates laptops for 3 hours at a time. The laptops are configured to only work on the on-campus network.
Periodically, these laptops need to be updated in order to ensure that they can connect to the campus network.
To update laptops, follow these steps:
- Bring laptop and charger to the northwest corner of the Circ work room (near the hold shelves, shredder and lock box).
- Plug the laptop into the wall using the charger.
- Plug the laptop into the blue ethernet cord.
- Attempt to log in to the laptop. If the laptop gives you the error "Cannot connect to domain," restart it.
- Continue with log in attempts and restarting until you are able to successfully log into the laptop.
- Check the laptop for updates (on PCs, type "Updates" into the bottom left-hand corner search box; on Macs, click on the Apple menu in the top corner, select System Settings --> General --> Software Update).
- Allow updates to run.
- Once updates have completed, restart the computer and update the checklist.
- At the end of the update cycle for the day, ensure all laptops and chargers are returned to the COW, and that the laptops are plugged in.
