We are unable to assist patrons with requesting items through their Primo accounts, as it requires that they sign in with their GU username and password. To request an item on behalf of a patron, you would need to use Alma. If you have questions about how to do that, please ask a supervisor.
To request a locally owned copy through Primo, follow these steps.
Go to the library's homepage and find the white search box.
Run a search for the item.
Find and click on the item that you would like to request (note: only physical items may be requested).
Click on "Request Gonzaga Item."
Select desired pickup location. For undergrads, the only option will be Foley or Chastek. For faculty and staff, there will be an additional option of "Personal Delivery - Work Address." For grad students, there will be an additional option of "Personal Delivery - Home Address."
When searching for course reserves, you will want to use the "Course Reserves" tab.
From the Course Reserves tab, you can search by title (ex: AFRICAN RELIGIONS), professor last name (ex: CHIEN), or course number (ex: HONS 221). This will bring up a list of possible results.
Locate the call number for the item that you need to find on the course reserves shelves. NOTE: items may be shelved in either the regular course reserves shelves, or the permanent reserves shelf (located to the left of the regular course reserves shelves).
If the item is available, it will read as "Available at (Foley Library call number)."
If it is checked out, it will read as "Not Available - On Loan Until (due date/time)." You can tell any interested patrons to try back after that date and/or time.
NOTE: Course reserves are not requestable.
To search for eBooks, click on "Advanced Search" on the main search box of Foley Library.
Under the "Search Criteria," select the radio button for "Foley eResources."
Run a search by title, keyword, or author. This will bring up a list of eBook & eResources results.
On the left hand side of the screen, find the "Refine my results" column, and under "Resource Type," select "Books."
This will bring up a list of eBooks.
Clicking on any of the titles will bring up the item record, which will have a link to the database where the eBook is hosted. In this example, the eBook is hosted on Ebook Central Academic Complete.
Clicking the blue link will bring you to the eBook.
Important note about eBooks: Some eBooks only have single-user licenses (which means if one person is reading it, it becomes unavailable for other users). In the above example, the library has unlimited access to the eBook, which means any number of people can access it simultaneously.
When searching for periodicals, you will want to use the "Journal Search" tab.
Some students may think that they can search for articles through Journal Search. It is important to note that Journal Search will only search for journal titles held by Foley Library. For example, if a patron wanted to browse articles from a particular periodical title (New York Times, Psychology Today, National Catholic Register, etc.).
Running a search for the desired title will bring up a list of titles and locations.
As you can see, the titles are very similar, but there are two different publications and locations (one in print on the lower level, and one online). If you click on the top location, it will bring up the print holdings information for this title.
To assist a patron with finding this journal, you would write down the call number and be sure to specify that it can be found on the lower level of Foley Library (where all of our periodicals are held).
To check the online holdings for Willow Springs Suburban Life, you would click on the item record.
As you can see from the item record, the library has access to this journal during the dates of 2/14/2007 to 09/28/2023. To access this journal, you would click on the link for "Newsbank All Titles (Single Title Access)."
NOTE: Print journals are not requestable.
