Reserves

Reserves

Reserves are items with limited checkout periods that are kept behind the Circulation Desk. Here are the different kinds of Reserves that you might encounter.

Permanent Reserves

Permanent reserves are typically items that go on course reserve every semester, so we instead have them on permanent reserve (example: Chemistry textbooks). These items circulate from 2 hours to 3 days, and can be found in the circulation workroom under the shelf labeled “Permanent Reserves.”

Course Reserves

Course reserves are placed on temporary reserve for a specific course each semester. These items typically only circulate for a few hours at a time, and are building use only.

When checking out reserves

When checking out reserves to patrons, be sure to tell them the time that the item is due back, and let them know if the item is building use only (you can tell by the “Building Use Only” sticker on the item).

How to tell when Reserve Items are due

When staffing the circulation service desk, you will sometimes have multiple patrons wanting to check out the same reserve item. If the item on reserve is already checked out, you can let the patron know at what time the item is due back by checking through Foley’s website via Primo (the search bar). Limit your search to "Course Reserves" as you normally would to find the item. Once you've located the correct item, scroll down and the "Status" field will tell you the time at which the item is due back. Do NOT tell patrons who has a reserve item checked out, as this is confidential and private information.

Reshelving Course and Permanent Reserves

When course reserves and perm reserves are returned at the desk, check them in and immediately reshelve them on the reserves shelf (do not place them on the sorting table, as they can get lost in the stacks).
