Email & Canvas Expectations
Our expectation is that you do not complete Canvas training or monitor your emails while off-the-clock. Since you are paid hourly, we do not want you to do any library-related work while off the clock.
Exceptions: "READ NOW" Emails
However, as your supervisors, we will need to send you important and timely information from time to time (i.e., checking in about missed shifts, timesheet reminders, urgent calls for coverage). Please note that any email that we expect you to read while off-the-clock will have a subject line that begins with “READ NOW.”
If you receive an email from us and it does not contain those words in the subject line, or contains the subject line of "READ LATER," please plan on reading them during a normal shift when you are being paid for your time. You should read all communication from us thoroughly, including communication from Student Employment.
Lengthy Supervisor Communications
If for some reason we contact you when you are not on shift and the phone call or communication lasts longer than 10 minutes, you need to log that time on your timesheet. We don’t expect that this will happen, but if it does, we want you to know your rights as a worker.
Your Contact Information
Providing your phone number to your supervisors and colleagues is optional, but it allows us to text you or call you when you miss a shift or a timesheet deadline, or if we are looking for someone to pick up a shift on an urgent basis. Please let a supervisor know if you would rather opt out of providing your phone number for those purposes.
