RELI 505 - Library Orientation: Welcome!

Library Competencies

These are the library competencies we hope to give you through this guide:

  1. Familiarity with the resources Foley Library offers and how to access them
  2. How to log in to various library services
  3. How to find and access journal articles in online databases
  4. How to access both ebooks and physical books from Foley or other libraries
  5. How to use RefWorks
  6. How to get one-on-one help

At the end of this guide you will be asked to rate your confidence in each competency, and to reflect on how your understanding of these competencies might affect your work as a student.

Welcome!

Welcome to the Foley Library Introduction and Orientation. Did you know? You have exactly the same access to library resources as on-campus students! Our resources can make your work as a student a lot easier. Simply knowing what sources are available is the first step to using them. Search for academic articles in over 250 databases. Order physical books from Foley or another library. Get immediate one-on-one help from a librarian.

About This Guide

Welcome to Foley Library at Gonzaga University! This guide is your introduction to the many resources we offer to the Gonzaga community.

If you have questions about this guide or anything else about the library, email your friendly neighborhood librarian using the sidebar on the right or chat with us here.

How to Use This Guide

This guide is broken down into bite-sized chunks (okay, maybe a little bigger than a bite), which you can access by using these tabs at the top of the page:

Under each tab, you will find information about that part of our library service. Don't hesitate! Dive right in!  If you see this icon . . .

. . . it means that we have provided a downloadable PDF document that makes it easy to print that  tutorial.

Near the bottom of each tab, you will find a section like this . . .

. . . which lists a few challenges to give you some hands-on time with our resources.

When you have had your hands-on time, go on to the section called . . .

. . . and see how well you do! (Don't worry: these quizzes aren't graded!)

When you finish each tab, just hit the Next button at the bottom of the page to go on to the next tab or just click on another tab at the top of the page.

When you have completed all the tabs, take the final self-assessment and reflection.

Have fun!
