Using the Archive & Special Collections: Citing Archival Material

This guide will help you find your way around the UASC archival collections and provide you helpful tips on how to do archival research and read a finding aid.

Citing Archival Material

There are two different methods of citing in Chicago Style: Notes and Bibliography and Author-Date. Check with your professor or your assignment details to know which method you should use.

Be sure to consult the Chicago Manual of Style or the quick guide for more detailed explanations of standards and procedures. Most archival records are covered under the section "Manuscript Collections."

You can use tools like the Purdue OWL to help you build your citation. This resource uses the 17th edition of Chicago Style.
