Formatting Your Paper

APA 7 has guidelines for both Student Papers and for Professional Papers; the following video is specifically geared towards formatting Student Papers. If your instructor specifies that your paper should be in professional format, please follow those guidelines instead. If you have any questions about what is or is not required for your APA paper, please check in with your instructor.

Highlights

  • Use one space after each sentence
  • If you have a number that is less than 10 or starts a sentence, you should spell the number out; for numbers in double-digits, you can use numerals
  • Numerals are used for any numbers that represent time, dates, ages, or money
  • Write out common fractions (i.e., "one-third of participants...")
