Zotero Workshop

Downloading / Installing Zotero

There are two steps to downloading Zotero. Go to Zotero.org and click Download. You will need to download two pieces of software: the Zotero app and the Zotero Connector.

Download and install the Zotero program

NOTE: If you are using a Gonzaga computer (such as a laptop provided by the college or a library computer), Zotero will prompt you to input administrator credentials when installing the program. You can bypass this by clicking the "No" button, and the program will continue the installation process.

 Download the Zotero Connector

If you are using Chrome and are logged in with your GU account, you will not be allowed to install the extension. So you’ll need to either switch to a different Chrome profile, or use a different browser (such as Firefox, Safari, or Edge).

Check to make sure both programs are installed.

The Zotero app should have an icon that looks something like this: zotero icon

The Zotero extension should now show up in your browser toolbar. It may look like a faded “Z,” or like this: zotero icon If you don’t see the Zotero icon in your browser toolbar, make sure to check that it isn’t hidden.

  • In Safari, you can view / manage your extensions under the preferences menu, and then navigate to the extensions tab.
  • In Chrome, Firefox, and Edge browsers, there will be a jigsaw puzzle icon that shows all of your extensions – make sure that Zotero is listed there, and make sure the pin button next to it is activated.

Once you have verified that both the Zotero App and the Zotero Extension are installed, you are ready to get started!
