Linking to Library Resources

This guide will walk you through some of the nuances of linking to library resources in a way that assures your students will have reliable access both on and off campus.

As an instructor developing or maintaining an online course or syllabi you have some options on how to link to library resources.

Option 1: Link Directly to a database record

Many of our library databases offer some sort of permalink option, this is a great way to link directly to a record, however there is always the chance that database URL's or other information can change, so it is still important to monitor these links.

Linking methods vary across library databases, but we are happy to help if you need assistance linking directly to a particular resource please contact us at refdesk@gonzaga.edu or reach out to your Librarian Liaison for guidance.

Option 2: Link to a Primo Record

Our Primo Library Search contains dynamic, content that connects to the many library subscriptions databases.
NOTE: Primo Library Search permalinks created prior to August 2022 will need updated due to our system upgrade and transition to the Orbis Cascade Alliance.

To create a new permalink:

  • Navigate to Primo Library Search
  • Search for the title you wish to link to - if you saved items to your My Favorites list prior to the upgrade you can access them there. Be sure to login to Primo to access My Favorites by clicking the pushpin icon.
  • When you find the record you wish to link to select the chain link icon and then copy your permalink.
