Summit Borrowing: Home

This guide provides information about using Foley Library's Summit and Interlibrary Loan services.

What is Summit?

Students, faculty, and staff of Gonzaga University now have access to the physical library collections of the 36 other member libraries of the Orbis Cascade Alliance, including universities such as the University of Washington, Washington State University, Oregon State University, and the University of Oregon.

The combined collections of over 28.7 million books, CD's, DVD's, and scores can be easily discovered and requested through the Foley Center Library's catalog. Once requested, most items will arrive within less than a week. Print items can be checked out for six weeks, and A/V materials for six days. There is no charge for use of Orbis Cascade Alliance resources.

What is interlibrary Loan?

Although the Orbis Cascade Alliance has a lot of materials, there may be a few items not available through our partner libraries. If you come across a book that the Alliance doesn't have, our Interlibrary Loan Department will borrow it from somewhere else and pass it along to you.

Interlibrary loan is the best route to request non physical materials such as articles and book chapters, which are usually sent electronically.

For more information about interlibrary loan, please see our ILL information page.

When do I use interlibrary loan?

ILL (Interlibrary Loan) is your the best option to request journal articles, book chapters, or physical materials not available via Summit.

After you've done a search in Books & More, you may find that the Foley Library doesn't subscribe electronically to an article you need, or you may find an article through a library database that is not available through Foley.

Use the "Request item via ILL" link, the citation of your request will populate in the ILL form.

You'll receive an email from ILL once your article is available for download. Please note this process usually takes 24-48 hours, but may occasionally take longer.
