Darwin Day is an international celebration of science and humanity that is observed each year on Charles Darwin's birthday, February 12.  2009 marks two important anniversaries for the history of evolutionary theory. In addition to being the 200th anniversary of Darwin's birth, 2009 is also the 150th anniversary year of the publication of Darwin's seminal work, On the Origin of Species.

In honor of these anniversaries, Foley Center Library presents a small collection of original juried artist's books that faithfully portray the science behind evolution and/or the political and social history of evolutionary theory in a book arts form.  Artist's books are a genre of art especially well-suited to a library environment.  These are not just books that contain art--these books are the art.

Thank you to everyone who helped make our exhibition, The Codex & The Helix: Book Arts Exploring Evolution, as success!  If you missed seeing the six incredible winning entries (or want to visit them again), you can still explore the exhibition online by clicking on the tabs above.
