Project Description

The Our 2020 Project is imagined as a grassroots community diary of how Gonzaga experienced that most extraordinary year. COVID-19 has already disrupted the campus life and instruction we've known, and may well dictate the terms of a new normal going forward. With economic and civic turmoil as added backdrop, we can expect the past year to be a truly unique chapter in Zag history. As eyewitness contributors, it will be your lives--your thoughts, feelings, decisions, creative expressions--that can shed light into to the moment. All submissions will be held from public view at least until January 1st, 2026.  By then an entirely new body of students will be having their own Gonzaga experience, entirely reliant on the historical records we compile for a sense of what 2020 meant. Let's provide them with an impression that's as honest, serious and multi-faceted as possible. Thanks for contributing!

How to Donate

Content

  • We trust our donors to decide what is "honest, serious and multi-faceted," but we also retain the right to reject donations that clearly disregard these standards.
  • We interpret "Gonzaga community" as widely as possible, hoping to gather input from students, parents, faculty, staff, administrators, trustees, regents, alumni, and other supporters.
  • We seek content that's as varied and creative as possible. Here are some ideas:
    • Textual materials -  fiction, essays, diaries, poems, lyrics, correspondence, other pieces of writing,
    • Visual materials - photographs, drawings, scrapbooks, other artistic expressions,
    • Audio/Video recordings - relevant songs, interviews, events, personal reflections, etc.

Formats

  • The submission forms we provide for direct upload of digital materials (under 10 MB) accept commonly used formats, such as .doc, .zip, .pdf, .png, .jpg, tif, .ppt, .mp3, .mp4, etc.
  • Files in other formats (or over 10 MB) can be emailed or shared to uasc@gonzaga.edu.

Privacy

  • All donors must expect their names to remain visible along with their donated material after it becomes publicly available for research.
  • Donors carry responsibility for granting release of medical information that may be covered by HIPAA requirements.
  • Donors must also recognize established legal protections for other identifiable persons:
    • Such persons must sanction the donation with a separate Privacy Release statement.
    • Subjects of recorded interviews must also provide a Privacy Release statement.
    • A commonsense, 'Golden Rule' attitude is encouraged when considering privacy rights of others.

Intellectual Property

  • All donors must attest they are at least 18 years old.
  • Sole creators of donated works must attest to this fact.
  • Co-creators of works must also accept all terms of the donation agreement, including allowing their names to become visible after public release.
  • Donors must understand that once their material becomes available online, it will be covered pursuant to a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license, which allows others to share and adapt it, as long as you, the creator, is given appropriate credit.

Class assignments may prompt some of the best insights from Gonzaga students about their 2020 experiences. Subjects will vary widely, but here are a few that come to mind:

  • First Year Seminar reflective essays,
  • The COVID-19 pandemic, and its many impacts,
  • The Black Lives Matter movement, and its counter protest responses,
  • The 2020 national election.
