MeeScan is an easy way for patrons to check out books without having to come up to the desk. This device is located underneath the digital display across from the Circulation Desk.
If a patron is having trouble using meeScan, here are the steps to walk them through the process of self-checkout:
1. Tap your ZAGCARD on the black card reader.
2. Find the library's barcode for the book (you may need to show the patron where it is located-- a lot of times they will try to scan the book's ISBN on the back cover instead of the library barcode on the inside cover).
3. Slide the item toward the barcode reader until you hear a short beep and the blue light on the reader turns green.
4. IMPORTANT: KEEP THE ITEM ON THE WHITE SURFACE UNTIL YOU HEAR A "THUNK" NOISE. That noise is letting you know that the item has been desensitized and checked out correctly.
5. IF YOU HEAR A LONG BEEP, it means the item was not checked out correctly, and the above steps need to be repeated. If you are working at the desk and hear a long beep, please assist the patron at the kiosk.
6. If you continue to hear a long beep after repeating the above steps, there may be an issue with the patron's account (overdue blocks or expired account). Have them come over to the Circulation Desk and check their Alma account to make sure.
7. If the mounted barcode reader is not working, try the portable reader to the right of the station. Be sure to wait until you hear a "thunk" before removing the item from the white surface.
8. Once the item has been processed, it should appear on the kiosk screen. Remember to show them how to log out when they are done!
9. The patron will be emailed a receipt with their due date.
